ACI Press Release – May 30th 2013

Support from the UK for the ACI Launch.

The Association of Catholics in Ireland [ACI] received a message of support to-day from a ‘sister’ reform organisation in the UK on the eve of the launch of the new Irish Catholic reform group. The message highlights the growing international dimension of the reform movement in the Catholic Church:

“ACTA (‘A Call To Action’) a UK based Catholic reform association said “We are delighted to hear about your launch on June 1st and send you the warmest greetings – both to congratulate you on all the hard work that has already been done, and to send you our best wishes for your success in the future. Our ACTA Mission Statement goes hand in hand with your aims and objectives.  We pray that friendship and collaboration between the ACI in Ireland and ACTA in the UK will continue to grow, enriching and strengthening all of us in this important work for our Church”.

The official launch of the Association of Catholics in Ireland [ACI] will be held on Saturday 1st June 2013 in the Clarion Hotel, Liffey Valley. The launch will form part of the programme for this general meeting of the new association of Catholics which is seeking reform and renewal in the Catholic Church in Ireland.

The major part of the programme for the day will involve a series of ‘Open Space Workshops’ on ‘The Role of the Laity in Shaping the Future of our Church’ directed by an independent facilitator.

The ‘Open Space’ sessions will provide people with an opportunity to engage in  ‘free’  discussions on topical issues for the ACI and present an ideal opportunity for those in attendance to identify and prioritise the issues directly relevant to the role the laity will play in ‘Shaping the Future of our  Church’.

The programme for the day will also include the election of members to the newly constituted ACI Steering Group which will be responsible for guiding the association in the coming year as it strives to organise around the country and develop policies on key issues.

The detailed programme for the day is available on the new ACI website. Registration is possible ‘on line’ via the website and also in the Clarion Hotel, Liffey Valley, on Saturday the 1st June from 10.00 am.
