A scoping study by an Irish lawyer has reported 2,395 allegations of historical sexual abuse in 308 schools run by Catholic religious orders.
The report, published on Tue 3rd Sept 2024, has led to an Irish government commitment to a statutory state inquiry.
A high number of allegations related to special schools.
Survivors spoke of the life-long impact of their abuse, and, in many cases, of their belief that the abuse could not have gone unnoticed by school authorities.
