Calling it a ‘very sensitive issue’ Galway diocese has asked for ‘time and space’ to give ‘careful consideration’ to the interment of Bishop Eamonn Casey in the crypt of Galway cathedral, following his death in 2017.
This follows an RTE TV documentary programme of Monday July 22nd – ‘Bishop Casey’s Buried Secrets‘ – in which it was revealed that Bishop Casey had been deprived by the Vatican of his priestly status in 2005, following allegations of child sex abuse from several women, including a niece of the bishop.
The Bishop of Galway, Michael Duignan, has expressed his willingness to work with anybody affected, “to help bring truth, healing and peace to such terribly painful situations.”
