Online ZOOM event

Peter Wilkinson and David Timbs are members of a small, Melbourne based, Australian Catholic reform advocacy group, Catholics for Renewal. It was founded in 2011 by a few practising Catholic women and men, committed to the vision and promise of Vatican II. Their first public engagement was in response to the revelations of the enormous scope of the clerical child sexual abuse catastrophe in Australia. The group prepared submissions to the 2013 Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into the “Handling of Child Abuse by Religious and Other Organisations” and to the 2013-2017 “Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse”. The submissions by Catholics for Renewal were responsible for effecting significant changes in State laws and Church safeguarding protocols. Since its announcement of an Australian Plenary Council in 2016 Catholics for Renewal has devoted their collective energies into setting out what they are convinced are the essential systemic reform and renewal measures that will assist in getting the Catholic Church in Australia back on mission. This has now been published in book form.
