Pope Leo XIV has called for an end to violence against Palestinian Christians on Sunday August 16th – and called on the international community to increase diplomatic pressure for negotiations.
“I renew my appeal for an end to the ongoing violence against the Palestinian civilian population in the West Bank. …I urgently call on the international community to work toward advancing the two-state solution, for a just and lasting peace.”
There is particular anxiety around the Christian village of Taybeh on the West Bank of the Jordan – under increasing pressure from encroaching Jewish settlers, to whom the Israeli government displays a lack of firm intention to be impartial and protective of the rights of the Palestinian inhabitants, whether Muslim or Christians.
