In early September 2016, US polls of Catholic voting intentions in the presidential election in November predict a higher Catholic vote for Hillary Clinton than for Barak Obama in 2012.
So concludes NCR analyst Thomas Reese SJ in the US Catholic reform-oriented National Catholic Reporter.
However, Reese believes that this swing may have more to do with Catholic aversion to Clinton’s rival, Donald Trump, than with a liking for Hillary herself.
“Catholics have voted for the winner in almost every presidential election since 1932. If Democrats lose Catholics, they cannot win the election.”
