Thomas Reese SJ – analysing recent polls on US presidential voting intentions

In early September 2016, US polls of Catholic voting intentions in the presidential election in November predict a higher Catholic vote for Hillary Clinton than for Barak Obama in 2012.

However, Reese believes that this swing may have more to do with Catholic aversion to Clinton’s rival, Donald Trump, than with a liking for Hillary herself.

“Catholics have voted for the winner in almost every presidential election since 1932. If Democrats lose Catholics, they cannot win the election.”
